Annual Fund

 

​Since its founding, Northfield Montessori has had a strong tradition of parent involvement and financial giving to support our school’s programs, goals and mission.  It is through this tradition of generosity that we ensure a legacy of the highest quality in education and personal development for our children.

 

Tuition alone does not cover the cost of educating our children.  Donations enhance our children’s academic programs allowing Northfield Montessori to keep tuition affordable and provide:

• Continuing education and providing Montessori Certification for our incredible teachers and staff, who so profoundly impact our children’s learning and development

• Enhancing the classroom and community experience for our children.

Each year Northfield Montessori relies on voluntary financial support from our board, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and alumni, parents of alumni, friends and corporate matching gifts through our Annual Fund.  Additional support comes through our annual fundraising event, the Soiree.

Who benefits from the Annual Fund ?

What is the Annual Fund?
As a non-profit school, Northfield Montessori must develop and maintain a robust giving campaign to support programs beyond tuition and bridge the gap between tuition dollars and the annual operating budget. Northfield Montessori's Annual Fund was established in 2017 to serve the broader school community as a funding source to ensure that Northfield Montessori maintains an authentic Montessori environment that allows your child to thrive.

 

Why not just raise tuition?

If Northfield Montessori relied solely on tuition income, we would price ourselves beyond the means of many families. In addition, gifts to the Annual Fund are tax-deductible, while tuition is not. Unrestricted annual monetary gifts enable Northfield Montessori to maintain high quality programs and facilities, attract and retain quality teachers, and help keep tuition affordable. Through annual giving, every student is subsidized through the generosity of our larger community.   ​

Are Annual Funds common?

Yes. Annual Funds are common practice among independent schools to compensate for expenses not covered by tuition. 90% of independent schools operate on a tuition gap basis where the tuition is 10-25% less than total expenses. These schools depend entirely upon their annual funds to cover the gap for budgeted expenses.

By participating in the Annual Fund, you will help to ensure that your child is building a love of learning inside a dynamic, diverse, vibrant, and supportive community.

 

Where does my money go?
The three critical programs the Annual Fund supports are: (1) Supporting continuing teacher education programs for NM's staff; and (2) Enhancing the classroom and community experience for our children.

 

How does this affect my child?
Your child will be with highly trained and dedicated Montessori teachers. Your child will be immersed in a rich and vibrant school community. Your child will benefit from added resources and activities created by the Fund.

Northfield Montessori is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt corporation. All gifts to the school are tax-deductible to the extent specified by law.
